Thomson Tidbits

September 2025 Where the Beet Begins!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school! We have had 3 very smooth weeks and are getting into a daily routine. We appreciate everything you have done to help us make that happen. After this week of school, we ask that you drop your children at the front door and let them show their independence by walking to the cafeteria and classroom on their own. We still have staff members in the halls to help the children find their way if need be.

Reminders:

  • Our front doors do not open before 7:25 since we do not have staff on duty.

  • Dismissal is at 3:25.

Library News

The K-2 students received a book bag to keep their library books clean and dry in their backpacks.  Please keep them to use all year.  Books are due the next time the class comes to the library for specials, but may be turned in any time before that.  The library has a lot of new books just waiting to be read; I can't wait to see what the favorites will be!

Health Office News

Holly, our health clerk, would like to remind you that all medications including over the counter as well as prescriptions, must be brought to the health office. Students are not allowed to administer medications themselves.

If you are moving in from a different state, please make sure to bring in a copy of your child's immunization records for our files.

If you are wondering if your child is too sick to come to school, please check out the How Sick is Too Sick flyer here.

Attendance Matters

Not only is attendance required by state law, it is crucial for a student's success, both academically and socially. Students with regular attendance perform better in reading, math and other subjects. Consistent attendance teaches discipline, punctuality, and responsibility-skills that are essential in the workplace and life.

Classes begin at 7:45.

Help Your Child Succeed in School: Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early DID YOU KNOW? • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school. • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read. • Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks. • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance. • Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. • Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots. • Introduce your children to their teachers and classmates before school starts. • Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent. • Try to schedule non-urgent related medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session. • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning. • If you are concerned that your child may have a contagious illness, call your school or health care provider for advice. • If your child must stay home due to illness, ask the teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home. When Do Absences Become a Problem? CHRONIC ABSENCE 18 or more days WARNING SIGNS 10 to 17 days SATISFACTORY 9 or fewer absences Note: These numbers assume a 180-day school year Visit Attendance Works at www.attendanceworks.org for free downloadable resources and tools!
